‘Avatar 4’ will be a different kind of film; James Cameron designed it that way a decade ago
By the time Avatar 4 arrives on December 21, 2029, James Cameron's franchise will look nothing like what audiences have known for two decades.
Zoe Saldana has officially become the highest-grossing actor of all time, powered by the massive success of *Avatar: Fire and Ash*. With over $15.47 billion in global box office earnings, she now leads Hollywood’s all-time rankings.

Hollywood loves loud victories. Champagne pops. Big speeches. Victory laps on red carpets. But Zoe Saldana? She just slipped into history, smiled sweetly, and waved while everyone else scrambled to catch up.
Here’s the jaw-dropper: Zoe Saldana is now officially the highest-grossing actor of all time. Yes, of all time. Not actress. Actor. Full stop. And the movie that pushed her to the top? James Cameron’s latest blue-skinned blockbuster, “Avatar: Fire and Ash.”

If box office numbers were a sport, Zoe just won the World Cup, the Olympics, and the Super Bowl in one year, and somehow still looks humble about it.

Zoe Saldana has always been everywhere, but now the math makes it official. She has starred in three of the highest-grossing films ever made:
– Avatar (2009): still the No. 1 highest-grossing film in history
– Avengers: Endgame (2019): sitting proudly at No. 2
– Avatar: The Way of Water (2022): holding the No. 3 spot
That alone would be enough to make Hollywood executives faint. But Zoe didn’t stop there.
She is also the first actress ever to appear in four movies that crossed the $2 billion mark worldwide, thanks to “Avengers: Infinity War.”
Before the newest “Avatar” movie, Saldana was already sitting pretty with more than $14 billion in global box office earnings. That placed her just behind fellow Marvel stars Scarlett Johansson and Samuel L Jackson.
Then came “Avatar: Fire and Ash.”
The film has already earned $1.23 billion worldwide, pushing Zoe’s career total to a massive $15.47 billion, according to industry tracker The Numbers. That single jump moved her straight to No. 1.

Zoe did what she does best. She thanked everyone.
On Tuesday evening, she shared a heartfelt video on social media, smiling ear to ear, clearly overwhelmed but grounded.
“I just want to express my sincerest gratitude for the extraordinary journey that has led me to become the highest-grossing film actor of all time today,” she said.
She was quick to remind fans that this win wasn’t a solo act. Zoe credited the giant franchises she’s been part of and the directors who believed in her before the numbers did.
As if breaking box office records wasn’t enough, Zoe also had a career-defining awards year.
In March 2025, she won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her powerful performance in “Emilia Pérez.” With that win, she made history as the first Dominican American to win an Oscar.
The musical film swept awards season. Cannes. SAG Awards. BAFTA. Golden Globe. Critics Choice. If there was a trophy, Zoe probably took a selfie with it.
Zoe recently joked about how strange it feels to have “Oscar winner” permanently attached to her name.
“My husband has this joke,” she said laughing. “He goes, ‘Z, you can’t do anything now without people announcing you as Academy Award winner.’ You can’t rob a bank!”
She laughed, but admitted the honour still feels surreal.
“I’m honoured. I’m very happy. And I’m also like, ‘OK, let’s continue to work.’”
